Hello on Tuesday!  How are things going in the world of fic?

Did you write?

   - Yes!
   - No!
   - Not yet!

If yes, what kind of writerly activity did you engage in?  How do you feel about it?
If no, what were the obstacles/situations that affected your writerly pursuits?  What will you do differently tomorrow to get more writing done?
If not yet, because the day hasn't gotten going yet, what kind of writing activity are you planning (or hoping) to accomplish?

Hello on Monday! How's the day going so far for fic? (If you haven't gotten started on your day as yet, how did yesterday go for writing fic?)

    - Excellent!
    - Terrible
    - Somewhere in between
    - Nothing doing

How much time have you spent on writing fic today, roughly?

    - None
    - 30 minutes or less
    - 30-60 minutes
    - 60-90 minutes
    - More than 90 minutes

In five words or less, how do you feel about that?

Hello on Sunday! What kind of a writing day has it been so far today -- or if today hasn't gotten going yet, how did you fare yesterday?

       - I thought about my fic once or twice
       - I wrote
       - I did some planning and/or outlining
       - I did research and/or canon review
       - I edited
       - I've sent my fic off to my beta
       - I posted today!
       - I'm taking a break
       - I did something else that I'll talk about in a comment

Sunday Discussion:  It's a new writing week, and the last few days of the current month.  How are you doing so far with meeting writing goals for the month?

One of my favorite ways of kickstarting the writing brain is to interact with a beloved piece of media.  Especially one that makes you feel something!  Whether it's a favorite story, novel, fanfic, visual art, movie, show, game, or anything else, just taking in storytelling you enjoy can do double duty as rest and inspiration.

So, visit one of those today!  And please share with the class~  👀👀

Today's discussion is a challenge:

If you have written today--Open the first WIP you find and write one (1) word.

If you have not written today--Open the first WIP you find and write one (1) word.

Yes, it's the same challenge, dw about it.

It doesn't have to stay in the final version.  It doesn't need to make sense.  Just add one word.

I believe in you!

It's time to sign up for the October WIP challenge! Some people join the challenge mid month, or comment on check-in posts without signing up, which is fine -- I'm glad there's a way for the challenge to be useful in a variety of ways. For those of you who find the commitment of signing up useful, please leave a comment with the below information.

Sign-ups will be open until the end of October.

Level of challenge: 1 chapter, 1000 words, 1 fic finished, whatever you like
Fandom(s) involved: if you know at this point
What you're looking for from the challenge: this could be as vague or specific as you like: someone to be accountable to, someone to remind you to write, someone to bounce ideas off, etc.
What you could offer other participants yourself: ditto!
How people should contact you: DW message, e-mail, IM etc.
Time zone: useful for seeing who might be up for a writing session at a time convenient to you

Copypaste below:

The post for hosting the daily check-in is here and thanks to everyone who helps out with this. If you're interested in helping out and there are still slots available the post remains open until the last week of the month and we generally run our week Sunday to Saturday, I'm happy to chat via PM on DW for anyone who might need it.

If you have ever completed a fic through this challenge we have a collection on AO3 and on SquidgeWorld both collections are open and unmoderated. Should there be an issue with adding a work, let me know and I'll see if there's a fix for it.

It was a break and/or life day and that's fine!

Umami...the fifth answer.

If there's one thing I've learned from a life with chronic illnesses, it's that daily energy is not constant, no matter what we do.  Some days you can do a lot, and some days just making it to the next day is a lot.  Writing is like that, too.

And sometimes, even when you have the energy for writing and no other tasks that need to get done instead, you still just don't want to write.  And that's OK, too.  Our brains need rest the same as our bodies.  Besides, when you come back to your writing, you'll be that much fresher and eager to do it.

Forgive me a few moments of astrology talk, but I promise it's leading somewhere.

Today was a partial solar eclipse (not visible in my part of the world, but holy cats, was it felt!) and the astro-weather has been, uh... well, it's been!  And when you're in these kinds of times where brains might be buzzing less with ideas and more with static, it's important to give yourself grace if you're not "as productive" as you want to be, however that looks to you.

So make sure you take time to rest!  If you've written anything at all today, congrats!  Celebrate it and take some time to decompress.  If writing hasn't happened at all today, that's fine!  Read over a piece of your writing you're proud of (whether finished or a WIP) and do something fun as a reward for being kind to yourself.
